Dr. Andrew F. Leuchter is a Professor and Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Science at UCLA. He serves as the Director of the TMS Clinical and Research Program and the Neuromodulation Division and is the Associate Director of the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. An internationally recognized expert in mood disorders, Dr. Leuchter’s research focuses on enhancing treatment outcomes for depression, particularly through neuromodulation techniques such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).
Dr. Leuchter is pioneering clinical trials aimed at improving TMS outcomes and developing innovative treatments like synchronized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (sTMS) and Trigeminal Nerve Stimulation (TNS) for depression and PTSD. Utilizing advanced brain-imaging techniques such as quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), he seeks to predict and tailor treatment approaches for individual patients. With over 150 scientific articles to his name, Dr. Leuchter is a leading voice in the field of neuromodulation and mental health treatment.
A Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electroencephalography and Neurophysiology, Dr. Leuchter is a member of several esteemed organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association and the Clinical TMS Society. In addition to his research and academic roles, he maintains an active clinical practice, specializing in the care of patients with treatment-resistant depression.
