Interventionist in Brentwood

Most families who call from Brentwood aren’t calling because of one bad night.

The short answer

An interventionist in Brentwood helps a family plan and hold a structured conversation with a loved one who is struggling. Lifestyle Interventions is a Los Angeles intervention and recovery advisory service founded by Chris Howard. Based in Los Angeles, the practice supports families in Brentwood, across California, and nationwide.

What we do

What is an interventionist?

Definition

An interventionist is a trained professional who helps a family plan and hold a structured conversation with a loved one who is struggling, and helps map the next step toward support.

In plain terms, I help you get ready. I’m not a therapist, and I’m not a treatment provider. My job is to bring structure and calm to a conversation that’s been going badly, and to make sure there’s a real next step waiting when it’s over.

Who we serve

When you’ve already tried everything

I can’t count how many parents have told me some version of the same thing. We’ve done therapy. We’ve done ultimatums. We’ve done the tough conversation. Nothing sticks.

Here’s what I’d tell you if you called me. Most of those attempts weren’t wrong. They were just unplanned, and they happened one person at a time. A loved one can brush off one worried parent on a Tuesday night. It’s much harder to brush off a family that’s prepared, calm, and saying the same thing together, with a real option on the table.

Confidentiality

Keeping it quiet in a small community

Privacy is central to how we work. We understand that visibility and reputation can weigh on a family's decision to seek help.

Every conversation with us is confidential, and we plan each step with your family's privacy in mind.

The process

The two approaches I use

There are two approaches I work with. The Johnson Model is a direct, prepared conversation where the family meets the loved one together with one clear message. The Invitational Model brings the loved one in from the start, so nothing is a surprise.

Neither one is right for every family. Which one fits depends on your loved one, your family, and how much trust is left in the room. That’s part of what we figure out before anything happens.

I travel nationally when a family needs me to. When treatment is the right next step, I coordinate with licensed providers. I do not run a treatment facility.

What to expect

What to Expect When You Call

The first call is a confidential conversation. There is no obligation, no pressure, and no enrollment process at the start.

For families, we will ask about the situation, the person, the history, and what has been tried. By the end of the call, you will have a clear sense of whether our work is the right fit and what the alternatives are if it is not.

For clinicians, we will ask about the patient, the family system, and the clinical context. We will tell you honestly whether an intervention is what the situation needs, or whether something else is more appropriate.

If someone you love is in immediate danger

Call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or your local emergency services. For Los Angeles County mental health emergencies, the LA County DMH ACCESS line is 800-854-7771.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions

We’ve already tried therapy, and it didn’t work. Why would this be different?

We are based in Los Angeles and support families in Brentwood. We come to you and plan around your family's needs.

Will people find out?

Not from me. These conversations stay inside the family, and I plan them with that in mind.

Do you come to us?

Yes. I’m based in Los Angeles, and I work with families in Brentwood and the surrounding areas, and I travel nationally when a family needs me to.

What if it makes things worse?

That fear is understandable, and it’s one of the main reasons families wait. A prepared, respectful conversation is far less likely to blow up than another unplanned argument at the kitchen table.

Do you provide treatment?

With a conversation, not a commitment. We talk about what’s happening and whether an intervention is even the right next step. Sometimes it isn’t, and I’ll tell you that.

Do you provide treatment?

No. I’m an advisory service. When treatment is the right step, I coordinate with licensed providers.
