Interventionist Services in Michigan

Professional intervention services for Michigan families, wherever you’re located.

CONFIDENTIAL

The short answer

I provide intervention services for families in Michigan, including Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor and Birmingham. Based in Los Angeles, I travel to Michigan for the intervention itself, or coordinate the process remotely with local support, depending on what your family’s situation calls for.

What We Do

What is an interventionist?

Definition

An interventionist is a trained professional who helps a family plan and hold a structured conversation with a loved one who is struggling, and helps map the next step toward support.

For Michigan families, that includes deciding together whether I travel to you or coordinate the process remotely with a trusted local team handling the in-person parts, and staying involved through treatment placement either way.

Who We Serve

Helping families outside Los Angeles take the first step

I’m based in Los Angeles, but a lot of the families I work with aren’t. When a family in Michigan calls me, the first conversation is the same one I’d have with a family down the street: what’s happening, who’s involved, and what your loved one is likely to do when approached.

Michigan families often describe a long slow decline rather than one dramatic event, which makes it harder to know when to act.

From there, I’ll tell you honestly whether traveling to Michigan makes sense for your situation or whether coordinating the process remotely is the better fit. That decision depends on your timeline and what’s actually happening, not a fixed rule.

Confidentiality

Planning with your privacy in mind

Privacy is central to how I work, regardless of distance. I understand that visibility and reputation can weigh on a family’s decision to seek help.

Every conversation with me is confidential, and I plan each step, including travel logistics if that’s the right approach, with your family’s privacy in mind.

The Process

Two approaches, matched to your family

I use the Johnson Model and the Invitational Model. One is more direct, the other invites the person in from the start.

I’ll help you choose the approach most likely to keep the door to help open, wherever your family is located.

I hold the Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III credential (Sober College), one of the highest-level counseling credentials in California.

I also hold the Certified Case Manager Interventionist credential (Breining Institute), the dedicated intervention-methodology credential. The strongest practitioners hold both.

I work in both the Johnson Model and the Invitational Model, and recommend the one that actually fits your family’s situation, whether I’m traveling to you or coordinating remotely.

Los Angeles interventionist serving families across Michigan

Reach

Based in Los Angeles, serving families across Michigan

I’m a Los Angeles-based interventionist, and I work with families across Michigan, including Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor and Birmingham.

Lifestyle Interventions is a Los Angeles intervention and recovery advisory practice I founded. I don’t operate a treatment facility, and I don’t take referral fees.

The metropolitan Detroit suburbs and the west side of the state are very different environments, and families in each tend to have different concerns about visibility and privacy. Michigan is three hours ahead of Los Angeles, which I factor into scheduling so calls happen at a time that works for your family rather than mine.

Michigan families aren’t always in one place, and neither am I when the situation calls for travel. I coordinate everyone, wherever they are, into a single, calm plan, so distance doesn’t become another obstacle.

Local Context

Legal routes in Michigan

Michigan has civil commitment provisions covering both mental health and, in certain circumstances, substance use. The criteria are specific, so take advice from a Michigan attorney.

I am an interventionist, not a lawyer, and nothing here is legal advice. Where a legal route is available it is usually slower than a planned conversation, so most families I work with start with the conversation.

Who I Help

Who I help

I work with families facing substance use, alcohol concerns, and mental health struggles, among other situations.

The right approach depends on the person and the family, not on a single template, and not on geography.

What to Expect

What to Expect When You Call

The first call is a confidential conversation about what’s happening in your family and what your options look like, including cost and whether travel makes sense, before you decide anything.

For families, I’ll ask about the situation, the person, the history, and what has been tried. By the end of the call, you’ll have a clear sense of whether working together is the right fit, and what that would actually look like logistically.

For clinicians, I’ll ask about the patient, the family system, and the clinical context. I’ll tell you honestly whether an intervention is what the situation needs, or whether something else is more appropriate.

If someone you love is in immediate danger, call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or your local emergency services.

Frequently Asked

Frequently asked questions

Do you have to be physically present in Michigan for the intervention to work?

Not always. I travel to Michigan when that is the right call, and coordinate remotely with local support when it is not. We decide together during planning, based on your timeline and what is actually happening.

How is a long-distance intervention different from a local one?

The preparation is identical and it is the part that matters most. What changes is the logistics: who is in the room in Detroit or Grand Rapids, how the handover into treatment happens, and how I stay involved afterwards.

What happens after the intervention if my loved one agrees to treatment?

Treatment is arranged in advance, so a yes can be acted on immediately rather than losing days to admissions. I stay involved through placement and remain available to the family afterwards.

Do you take a fee for referring to a treatment center?

No. I do not operate a treatment facility and I do not take referral fees. It is a question worth asking any interventionist you speak to, wherever they are based.

Is an intervention only for addiction?

No. I work with families facing substance use, alcohol concerns and mental health struggles, among other situations. The approach is matched to the person rather than the category.

Can you help if our family is spread across multiple states?

Yes. Families are frequently scattered, and coordinating people in different places into one plan is a normal part of the work rather than an exception.

Do you work with families in the Detroit suburbs?

Yes. I work with families across Michigan including Detroit and the surrounding suburbs, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor. Whether I travel or coordinate remotely depends on the situation rather than the postcode.
