About Grant
Grant Overmire holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Education Psychology and Counseling, both from California State University Northridge.
His work in mental health began in 2012 with substance use disorder, which brought him into regular contact with dual diagnosis. He has practised across a range of clinical settings: inpatient residential, outpatient, and long-term recovery housing.
In his own practice he works with individuals and couples across a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship and marital issues, life transitions, and addiction and codependency.

His approach
Grant's orientation is psychodynamic, drawing on cognitive behavioural therapy, the Gestalt method and the Gottman Method. He describes meeting the patient where they are and working with what is happening in the here and now.
He also works from a mind-body perspective, and holds that physical and psychological wellbeing cannot sensibly be treated as separate.

How Grant has contributed
Grant has contributed to conversations I have had about how families and clinicians can work together during and after a crisis. His perspective is a clinician's, and it is a useful corrective to my own.
He runs an independent practice at grantovermiretherapy.com. If ongoing therapy is the right next step for your family, a licensed clinician like Grant is the person who provides it. You can also read about the difference between an intervention specialist and a therapist, or about recovery mentoring.
What this means, and what it does not
I want to be precise about this, because families are often unclear on who does what.
I am not a therapist and I do not provide clinical treatment. I hold the CADC-III and CCMI-M credentials. My work is intervention, family preparation and coordinating placement into care.
Grant is a licensed clinician with his own independent practice. He provides therapy. He is not employed by Lifestyle Interventions and his clinical work is his own.
I do not take referral fees, from Grant or from anyone else. A financial relationship between a referrer and a provider can influence where a family is sent, and it should not.
If your family is weighing a next step
I am happy to talk it through and, where ongoing therapy is right, point you toward licensed clinicians whose work I know.
